Wingspan Part III: Reflections
I drafted this in November 2023 and never hit publish. Enjoy the final part of my Wingspan Iron Viz reflections, from the heyday of Twitter (when it was still called that).
I’m realizing that my style of Iron Viz is to write a really long and detailed fan letter to one of my personal favorite creators. A niche look at “Hey I think this is awesome and here is exactly why.” And while my primary motivation is to get all of these thoughts out of my head for once and assembled in a coherent manner, both times there’s been a side benefit. Since I tweet about my entry and tag the author, there’s a chance they’ll see it. And they have!
This year, game designer Elisabeth Hargrave retweeted the post where I tagged her. But then, the next morning, she came back and commented in several sections of the longer thread!!!
She engaged on my analytical findings! And confirmed that some tradeoffs are by design and some are less intentional.
She added some additional insight and context, and gave a peek into the world of a bird nerd/game designer! I don’t know much about birds, so it’s really interesting to me to learn more about how the game does and doesn’t align with real life.
And it’s nice to have your decision not to dust off the ol’ stats notes backed up by someone who would know.
